Nesting

Now that Jonathan and I are married and settled into the routine of our new life together, we're spending a lot of free time discussing how we want to spruce up our home. We own a condo in the outskirts of Washington D.C. and expect to be living in this space for another 3-5 years.
While we don't want to invest in many home improvements, as we expect to eventually rent out this space and buy a larger home, we do want to invest in some nice key pieces that we can take with us into that larger home when the time comes. We realize how blessed we are, having inherited beautiful pieces of furniture from our parents, but also want to focus on making our home 'our style' without spending too much money doing so! To bring you all up to speed, we hope to upgrade a few of our accent pieces in our living room and dining area before completely redesigning our bedroom, which is another project and another post unto its self!
So in true 'reality' fashion, we're taking this one step at a time and making sure we're researching all our options before deciding on the right pieces. Here is what we're working with so far:

My mother gave us her beautiful Persian rug, which is nestled under a coffee table we bought after first moving in together 2 years ago. While the rug is beautiful and the coffee table American made out of a stunning North Carolina mahogany, we feel both accessories don't fit our style or the room.
What we're thinking of investing in to replace these pieces:

A more modern take on french-country chic in more neutral tones for the center rug.

We're looking for a wider version of these glass coffee tables with gold legs. Something a little more square and that will take up the large middle space of the living room.

Another neutral colored rug for the dining room, something that will compliment the rug in the living room but won't over-shadow the beautiful damask-printed dining chairs, as I consider them the main focus of the room.

Since our dining room area is very limited in space, we want to invest in a beautiful chest that will hold all our wedding china and silver that my grandmother passed down to me and can be showcased in our living area. I want something that we can take to our next home and will compliment the pieces we've already invested in. This chest may or may not remain a 'dining room' piece forever. I want this piece to be versatile and take on the role of many needs, whether that be in the dining room or bed room. These two chests featured above are extremely different in style, but I do think both could work well in the direction we're going with the living room. While mirrored furniture is trending right now, the ornate, traditional style of the chest on the right will absolutely last me 20 years or more!

Our side tables are not shown in our living room picture above, but I'm hoping to go in a more trendy direction with these pieces, as they aren't very expensive and I think could easily tie in with the china chest and coffee table styles we're interested  in.

Symmetrical wall art above the china chest will add some dimension to the living room.

A smaller-framed accent chair in a pretty print set adjacent to the china chest will add to that corner of the living room and give some functionality, adding another seat!

While we have a long way to go before this room is 'completed', we're enjoying the process of upgrading our home and making it ours. A home is never truly 'finished' and this new project has brought us together even more as a couple, as it is finally something we are creating and working on together!

Furniture is highlighted from Bassett Furniture, Harchow, Joss & Main as well as Arhaus.
