It took me a while to really piece this entire room together. The whole design centered around that silver mirror (snagged it from HomeGoods for $30 for my previous apartment!) and that beautiful crystal & brushed nickel chandelier that I fell in love with at my fiancé’s lighting store.
A year ago, when I was really polishing off the look of this room, I was heavily into French Country design. Weathered-white accents and damask prints really stood out for me. I bought the dining room table separately from a custom furniture store that works exclusively with a craftsman shop in North Carolina. I love that the table was hand-carved and painted just for us, right here in the United States!
Those four damask-printed chairs hail from Homegoods! And the flanked teal-blue end chairs? Homegoods as well! Same exact model but covered in a silk teal-colored fabric and with brown legs. I took some black paint to them and you would think the 6 chairs came as a mixed/match set!
To finish off the look, I found two wall sconces online that had the weathered-white finish I loved to accent the center mirror. The curio cabinet with a silver and glass finish is from Pier 1 Imports and the wreath that is hung over the mirror was a great find at a papery boutique in Old Town, Alexandria, originally purchased as a holiday door wreath!
The biggest obstacle when piecing a look together is patience. It took me months to find the right chairs to go with that table. I even fought with another interested buyer over a set of 6 pewter-colored suede Parsons Chairs at an antique shop in Northern Virginia. Clearly, she won! I eventually (a month later) stumbled across a set of five of the damask-printed chairs at one particular Homegoods location. I put them on hold and scoured every Homegoods location in my area for the sixth chair. No such luck…until I found a set of two of the teal-blue model! The whole look came together, slowly. But those chairs, while difficult to find, are my most proud find!
While this room may look complete, I’m still adding to it. I’m slowly moving away from the French Country style and moving onto more modern, trendy pieces. This is the next accent I can’t wait to throw into the mix (It will go on the adjacent wall – not shown above – with a few table top & wall accessories.) I'm hoping to house my wedding china and Grandmother's silver in this beautiful piece! I love how eclectic the room is becoming!
